how secure your server is, there is always a chance that you will lose data due
to hardware failure or software error. Keeping timely backups of the data can
ensure that these failures will cause small headaches, rather than larger ones.
Netware includes
built-in support for backups through the storage management system, or SMS. Netware
also includes a backup utility called SBACKUP, which work with SMS to back up
files on the network. SMS allows you to back up on the server, and it also
allows data on network workstation to be back up.
Back up are
done to a backup device. Most often, this is a tape drive. These drives are
available at an economical cost and can hold anywhere from 80 MB to 8 GB of
data. When you plan a network server setup, always include a backup device. The
first time a disk crashes on the server, you’ll be glad you did.
Tips
Netware’s
SBACKUP is a very basic backup application. Backup software is available from
several third-party vendors. These programs provide additional features and may
be more reliable than SBACKUP.
