Security Features

Locks and alarm system protect the resources of a company by preventing unauthorized access to them. The security features of the Netware offer these same benefits for
New resources. As a network administrator, you can control this security. You can specify the user who can access each recourse.
Net ware provides many levels of security, from the most basic feature that every network should use to advanced feature that may only be useful for government organizations with abbreviations for names. By taking advantage of these features, you can be sure that unauthorized user doesn’t access the network and that authorized user’s access only what they should.

There are actually many different components of network security, including the following

Login security

User must log in to the network by entering a username and password before they can access anything. As the network administrator, you will need to create username for each of the users. The username is also used to identify files created by the user and to send messages to the user.

Console security

If someone has access to the server console, that person can do all sort of harm, including taking the server down, or worse, erasing data on the disks. To prevent this, you can require a password for access to the console.

Physical security

Even a password can’t protect the server from some types of attacks (such as turning it off, stealing it, or knocking it off the table). Most often, these happen by accident. The solution is obvious only authorized individuals can get in.

Security Features
File system security

You can control access to each of the directories and files on the server’s disk. This allows you to give users access to the data they need to view or update and keep them from viewing data they shouldn’t see.

NDS security

NDS security control the management of NDS objects, including users, printers, and so on. You can keep tight control over who can create or delete objects.

Communication security

The data in the network cables can sometimes be vulnerable to unauthorized snooping. Netware features such as encryption and packet signature ensure that nobody can read your passwords or data in this manner.

Network auditing

New to Netware is a versatile auditing system. The server can keep a log of files and NDS objects that are accessed, created, deleted, or changed. This allows you to be sure there is no unauthorized access.
