To run Netware on
your server’s disk drive you need at least 50 MB. However, if you plan on
installing all of the Netware files (including optional files, such as client
software, online documentation, and OS/2 utilities) you will need at least 100
MB. An existing Netware 3.1xserver needs to have approximately 40 MB free to
perform the upgrade to Netware.
Warning
These are minimum
disk space requirements. You should always have at least 50 MB more than you
need, because running of disk space can cause your network to go down, and you
might lose data.
Memory requirements
Novell recommended 8
MB as the minimum amount of Ram in a Netware server. However, the Netware
operating system itself uses about 7 MB. This doesn’t leave much room for
applications or users. A Netware server with only 8 MB will be painfully slow,
unless your network is very small (five users or less). A more comfortable
minimum is 12 MB. If your network has 20 or more users, you will probably need
at least 16 MB.
Note
The amount of memory
your server needs will depend on the number of users, disk storage, and types
of applications used.
